Diane, I hope you are having a wonderful birthday! I know you are surrounded by your children and that has to be very special. This last year has been such a challenge in so many ways but also there are a number of hopeful signs. You are a wonderful person and deserve to enjoy your birthday goodies.
Love, Kathy
From Mao Rong:
Dear Diane, Happy Birthday to you! I know this a very different birthday for you: lost your loved one— your Mom, our aunt Frances and you are facing difficult physical challenges. And yet, it is very special birthday for you, because you are accompanied by your loved ones— Stacy, Aaron, Corey and Lesley! This is a luxury, specially during the pandemic! And you have my love and best wishes! Love you! Happy birthday 🎂🎈🎁🎉 Mao Rong

Hey Diane,
Happy birthday! Hope you are having a great and stress free birthday with the family. We are all thinking of you and praying for your continued health. Let’s get you back stronger than ever so that we can all ski again next winter!

From Kay Hechler:
Dear Diane,
I want to wish you a wonderful birthday!!
As we gear up for some wintry precipitation, I think back on the snowstorm that you experienced with me and Aunt Rita all those years ago in Bethesda at the 7620 Edenwood Court house. You had come to visit for a few days, and I think you had an event in the DC area to go to. We went to bed with the expectation of a few inches of snow and woke up to find that we had more than 24 inches of snow, completely covering our neighbors VW bug and so high against the doors that we had to get out of the house through the sliding door in the family room. Uncle Jack was in Germany, so it was just us four girls (you, me, my mom, and Schatzi). I had baked a cake the night before for a high school club meeting that was to occur the next afternoon, and with school being canceled for days, you and I attacked that cake in between the hours of shoveling we did. You were stranded at our house for much longer than you had intended, but we ended up having a pretty fun and relaxing time. I remember we all watched TV, played games, ate and laughed a lot. I hope your birthday does not come with 24 inches of snow but that you get to enjoy some delicious birthday cake, laughter, and celebration with your kids.
Thinking of you and sending hugs, warmest wishes, and so much love to you!
Your cousin, Kay
From Margaret Coggins:
Hi Diane –
Sending you love and warm wishes for a Happy, Happy Birthday!! Although for a sad occasion, it was so heartwarming to Zoom with you all on Saturday. The stories and photos brought back such incredible memories from my childhood and the experiences of us all growing up as cousins….I hope we can all make the time get together again virtually in the year ahead.
I’m sending along a great photo of you and Aunt Frances that I took when Mom and I visited several years ago. I’m so glad we were able to make that trip and I hope, that post Covid and post vaccine, we can do an in-person visit again.
I know you’ve been through so much these past months. I’m wishing you peace, health, happiness and strength going forward. Enjoy your day with Stacy and Aaron.
Lots of love – xoxo,
Margaret

Diane,
Happy Birthday my wonderful friend… You know, after all this time, I only met your Mom and Dad once. A few years ago ,I believe for chinese New Year. In any event, I learned so much about you yesterday through those wonderful and fun stories about your mom. I realized you are Frances 2.0.. embodying all the grace and conviction and purpose driven success that many described in her and you, even more. I treasure our friendship as you. Not just because no matter what crazy stupid “thing” i embark on or live through, you laugh with me and normalize it and usually we eat some great meal to discuss it and laugh. I treasure your deliberate approach to giving. Never limiting, but intentional. and limitless. You seek opportunities to make individuals, communities and the world better . This is an innate quality you have. I treasure your spirit of adventure. I treasure our shared Sept 15th day of “freedom” or was it bombing….? 🙂 😂. Honestly, I could never figure out why you continued to even speak to me after I brought over only a half a bottle of wine to say I’m sorry you ran out of gas with 2, 12 year old boys in the car after a few hours of golf or put-put. After getting to know you , I realized the half bottle of wine was perfect the rest would have been a waste :). Once I heard you telling Aaron as we were leaving a game, be “part of the solution” . I realized then that is why your a better mom then most of us, why didn’t you scream “quit whining”. (Aaron, not that i thought you were whining) … Jokes aside, “Be part of the solution” has never left me. It is a recurring thought I consciously have. And this is who you are. constantly giving, constantly generous with your actions, heart, mind, and soul. You are constantly part of the creating the solution. This mantra and way of living is why so many people are drawn to you. You bring everyone you meet some sense of peace and gratitude.
Me … I am forever grateful you ran out of gas!
Thank you for the gift of your friendship. You are so very very dear to me and a huge part of who I am.
Happy BIrthday wonderful friend

From Gail Harrigan:
Dear Diane,
There are many reasons I am so glad to call you my friend. Your generosity of spirit and caring especially of your family, but also your friends is such an admirable trait. But for me, the fact that we have been travel buddies for skiing these last 10 years (omg) is more special than you can ever know. I got to return to a sport I love, with you as my co-planner, companion and memory maker. I’ve gotten to ski more places than I ever dreamed because of you! And honey, you know how to dream big! What a gift these trips have been. Thanks, dear friend and I hope the future brings us more adventures together.
Happy Birthday, Gail

Most people would run away when they see an alligator, but Diane runs towards it for a photo op.
Dear Diane, Your strength, courage and fearlessness are inspirational to us. Wishing you a wonderful birthday filled with happiness, love and fun. Love, Lucille and Matt

From Dee Selheim:
Diane,
Happy, happy birthday. We have celebrated many birthdays together, but this year is a little different. We won’t be able to really celebrate until warmer weather, when we can be outside, and we’re all vaccinated.
You are a very supportive and generous friend. You always open your home for any event. I love how you enjoy my grandkids as much as I do.
I love our walks. My favorite was when Gail, you and I were walking across the RBR girls softball/field hockey field as the sprinklers came on! We ran laughing across the field, hoping not to get soaked!
I look forward to many more walks, cookouts this summer, and Friday night pizza!
With love,
Dee
